Reverse Gold Proof Eagles are struck in the same way as a regular gold proof coin, except the raised images are mirror-like and the background of the coin has a frosted finish. A standard proof coin is made with a mirror-like background with the raised portions of the coin being frosted, which is why the term "reverse proof" is appropriate for the unique finish.
Reverse Proof Eagles are still quite uncommon, and have quickly developed a following among American Gold Eagle collectors. The 2006 Reverse Gold Proof Anniversary edition is not frequently offered for sale, and prime grade examples currently garner a great deal of interest from both collectors and gold bullion investors when offered for sale at auction.
