Proof coins are collector versions of official U.S. Mint coins, such as the American Eagle Gold Proof Coin, which comes in a four-coin proof set or as individual coins in four different sizes including the 1-ounce coin, the one-half ounce coin, the one-quarter ounce coin and the one-tenth coin denominations. These special proof coins are minted to a mirror-like finish using special polished dyes, giving the coin a very highly detailed result that allows collectors to see every detail of the coin's images very clearly. These coins are created especially to be collected and are never circulated. The coins are then struck multiple times, creating a detailed, softly frosted image that seemingly floats above the reflective field. Read more

With American Gold Eagle Proof Coins, you get a 22-karat gold mint with a W etched on its surface, proof that the West Point US Mint created them. The Gold Proof Eagles are distinguished primarily through this distinctive minting process. For the creation of the coins, burnished blank coins are pressed on specialized equipment. After that step, the coin is struck several times, so that a detailed image is created that appears frosted and elevated above the reflective remainder of the coin. The image on the Gold Proof Eagle floats over the shiny finish of the background nicely because of this unique method.

Every coin is placed under careful inspection, and once they are approved, the Gold Proof Eagles enter a sturdy case of plastic, then in a satin-lined presentation case complete with a Certificate of Authenticity to verify that it's genuine. Read more
